Launceston Aquatic

We were lucky enough to get free tickets to a special "sneak preview" of Launceston Aquatic today, and were the first of four groups to go through this weekend. There was also an opening gala that Lisa and Aaron went to last night. We had 3 hours there that included a brief information session and ribbon cutting. I wasn't sure what the facility would be like as there had been a lot of negative talk in the media over the last 2 years while it's been under construction. I have to say - it was better than I expected, and really well done. We had a great time there today and can't wait to go back!
It's a great looking building
and I think it blends in well with the surrounding area
It's also got some of the best views in Launceston from the decks!
The 8 lane, 50m pool that can be divided into two 25m pools.
The kids play areas. The bucket filled up, an alarm sounded...
...and then it would dump HEAPS of water onto the kids every few minutes!
Myka slept through all the noise - alarms going and kids screaming!
One of the play poolsThis is how you dive Clea...
We were SO lucky as it was 21 degrees today - more like Spring than Winter next week - and the kids got to go on the slide and into the outdoor diving pool!
OUCH!!!
VERY brave going on the big diving board!!!
A huge black cloud came over just as Lol was contemplating jumping off the high board!
The slide is "awesome" apparently!
There will be aquarobic classes, learn to swim, water polo and underwarter hockey held there and you can have birthday parties there too! There's a warm rehab pool with wheelchair access and a SPA!!! There's also Cube Aqua cafe with a deck with stunning views over Launceston and up the river. The verdict - MUCH better than Hobart's aquatic centre (but we are MUCH better here in the North).

Isn't it GREAT!!!! The boys LOVED it. We agree - it is so much better than Hobart Aquatic centre and we used to love going there. We are so lucky to have it in Launceston. I know what the boys will be asking to do every Saturday now! Awesome photos - love the one of Lauren on the diving board with the clouds.

Great photos. Especially liked the black and white one of Lauren.
Ha!! I just looked up and read Lisa's comment and I always seem to say what she has said, right behind her. Like Mother like daughter.
Love Lorraine.

Patrick and Lauren are such dare devils! They must take after their Mum. I saw you skydive in Devonport all those years ago. Do you remember?

Nicki I had forgotten that! Patrick and Lauren both stood on the platform at Hobart Aquatic but wouldn't jump so I was surprised today! No way I'd jump of that high board!!!

And Christian, didn't you see the mayor and I going down the slide together to cut the ribbon, on the news???

lol - special technique indeed!!
Must say tho that the photo of Lauren in silouette is striking - if you have any local photo competitions - or even not so local - you should enter it.
It has all the hallmarks of being a champion photo.

Thanks Brad! We have a local comp coming up that I entered a photo of Lol in last year. The winner was Lisa ("The Kings" above) and she has taken some BRILLIANT photos this year, so the competition is tough!
