...organ donation?
This time of year always reminds me of the importance of blood and organ donations. I have been donating blood for over 20 years, and am also on the bone marrow registry, and an organ donor. Watching an episode of ICU last night (and then my new favourite Outlaw with Jimmy Smits) the lack of available donors was highlighted again. If it's something you haven't discussed, you should, and if you have thought about it but have never done anything, it is a simple process to register, and you can find an online form here. If the thought of organ donation is a bit much, blood donors of all ages and blood types are desperately needed everywhere, and this simple procedure once every 3 months can save not just one, but many lives. I know there are many lapsed donors out there, and with people being ruled out all the time after medical procedures, illnesses, travel, and like me - pregnancy - they are always in need of more donors. So, if you've ever wanted to, check the Australian Red Cross Blood Donor Service out here, or drop in to your local office and find out more. It really is a good feeling to be helping others and quite possibly, saving lives.
