Neighbourhood watch

We live at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac which is great. Until recently, there were no other kids around, but now we have two on either side - three who are close in age to Patrick and Lauren. Unfortunately they all love to play on the road, so I wouldn't let Patrick and Lauren play with them. Over the holidays, I realised they were missing out, so let them play together as long as they play in our drive. We have a basketball hoop, so the kids come over regularly.
Lauren and her fan club!
It would be great if the parents occasionally checked on them, but they don't seem to care - I'm the only one ever out there, and they are in our drive! I guess they live close enough the parents would hear them scream if anything happened! These days there are so many things the kids can't do - like going to the shop or park by themselves like we used to, it's nice to let them play with the local kids, and at the same time be safe and where we can see them!

I am the same!! I see kids around here riding bikes etc on their own and freak out!! Jay has a friend who just comes down from his house a couple of blocks up and I never know if his mum even knows where he is. It worries me and I feel bad for my boys as I seem so strict, but I like to know where they are and what they are doing - at least most of the time!

Yep- I would MUCH rather be too strict than risk anything! Just watching the unsupervised kids at Kids Paradise freaks me out, let alone those who ride around the streets here on their own!
