For ages I have been trying to find Patrick a touch lamp for his room. We had one, but it blew up and they are difficult to repair (or often can't be) and are hard to find. I found him one yesterday. Patrick likes to fall asleep with his light on, and trying to sneak in and turn off his old lamp sometimes ended with us waking him, so I thought a touch lamp would be easier and quieter. It would also be good when he wakes in the night occasionally, and bashes around half asleep trying to find his lamp switch! Yes, I can see it's metal, but I did NOT think it would get SO hot. Patrick has a NASTY burn blister on the top of his ear from leaning over near the lamp from bed! After I switched his lamp off and unplugged it it was too hot to touch - literally burning hot - for 5 minutes afterwards. Surely safety standards should not allow this??? I emailed the company that imports the lamps last night and asked for a reply a.s.a.p. I will be taking it up with them, and letting Office Works know that they are not safe. I'd hate to think how easily they could catch something alight being so hot so quickly, and for so long! there must be a consumer watch dog that governs this kind of thing, so consider it my new project! Stay tuned!
*I had a phone call following up my email within 12hours and they are looking into it, and will get back to me. Office Works were concerned and will refund or replace it for me.
