008 - Licence to itch!

For the first time in 8 years - it's happened! Lauren has the lousy head lice!
Lauren has thick dark hair, so the eggs were easy to see - not so the little critters! I found one "live one" so far, and she's in the bath with the foam treatment on her head as we speak. Every piece of bedding, clothing, and all hats and brushes are on the line (lucky it's sunny but not as hot as yesterday!) The cubby, all the comfy outdoor chairs, the car and everything else I can think of have been treated! The house smells like a tee tree plantation!
I asked Lol if "M" next door has had head lice recently (as they are a common occurrence at their house) and she replied
"No, but she had NITS last week"!!!
Agggh - they have been trampolining and playing "Mummies and babies" in the cubby all week - if only I'd known!
We've done well as Paddy is 9 and Lauren 8, and this is the first time, despite numerous notices from school over the years. Years ago when we had a notice home from Paddy's Kinder class, we'd been talking about head lice. The next time Paddy had an itchy head he said "Mum - I think I've got head license".
If anyone has any tried and tested ways of getting rid of them quickly please let me know!!!
Must go, I'm off to squash treated eggs and drown them in a glass of water!!!

Oh yuck!! Poor Lauren. Jay has had them a number of times from school, but we've been lucky that last few years. She is funny saying that the girl had 'nits' and not head lice! Hope you get rid of them all.

Yuck yuck yuck - it took me ages to get the eggs out and HEAPS of little critters after I put the medicated foam on for half an hour! Any hints greatly appreciated!

I got nits from someone's kid a couple of years back.I was mortified to say the least.
My doctor said to cover your head in hair conditioner, doesn't matter if it's a cheap one, and leave it in the hair overnight.
It kills the critters and its easier to comb them out in the morning.
Hang on, I think my head is getting ichy!!!!
Hope it helps.

Thanks Lorraine - I will try that between treatments. I know what you mean - my head has been itchy all day! So far it's only been Lauren and she has got the thickest hair (of course). She's been excellent though, and her hair is extra shiny and smells lovely:)

Hi Kylie, yeah that slide at Bridport was the BIGGEST I have ever seen.
I had head lice 4 yrs ago now... what a nightmare! Caught it off a kids doing parent help at school. Every night in between treatments I made Simon (husband) go thru it strand by strand.Did that for prob a week and then the next week, I got him to check twice a week and then once in the third week. With my girls I section their hair with hair bands, a bit like a hairdresser to check it strand by strand. Only way to ensure it does not come back. I do find it easier to check in blonde hair.

Thanks Simone. You're right - sectioning the hair makes it easier!

I bet you didn't volunteer for parent help again in a hurry after that!
